Newton was a Christian, by the way.
Yes, I’m well aware of the fact that Newton was a Christian. A man of his time in this respect. A thoroughly unpleasant character to boot. This does not detract from the brilliance of his scientific discoveries however!
I am a Buddhist and I actually find this comic strip quite interesting as my teacher once told me that while the West was (and still is, to a large degree) focused on the outward/tangible phenomena, the East focused on the inward/intangible phenomena, and your comic strip clearly exemplifies that.
Despite all the mysticism attached to Buddhism, most practices are actually very practical. Buddha fasting under the Bodi tree for example, was not a useless exercise, but rather a useful mental training (even when the idea of higher spiritual attainment is negated). Buddhism is essentially all about understanding the mind, and with that understanding, one can eventually train the mind and use it to its full potential. Even though Buddhism does not use scientific terms and such, the things Buddhism teaches about human psychology are generally true, and this is why Buddhism holds importance to the Scientific community especially in the fields of psychology and neuroscience.
So for me, both Buddha and Newton achieved something very significant, Buddha’s was simply not as apparent, initially.
Dear gypsealegs,
It’s only a comic strip and any ideas expressed in it should be viewed tongue in cheek
Or should they?
